Where will IPL 2022 Happen?
IPL 2022 is arriving soon. Everybody is excited about it and looking forward to it. Since the buzz of IPL season 15 started there has been a lot of debates and discussions regarding it. This being the mega season, IPL started with the addition of 2 new teams and a brand new title Sponsor in Indian Company TATA. Now it will be called TATA IPL. Mega auction is on the horizon and teams are gearing up for it.
Now another big question surrounding this upcoming Season 15 of this grand league is where is going to take place. Since the start of the Pandemic in 2020 IPL has been conducted out of India for obvious reasons. In 2020 IPL took place in UAE and in 2021 they tried to host it in India but they failed miserably which resulted in the suspension of the league in the month of May. The 2nd leg as it was called was conducted again in UAE. Thus IPL season 2021 finished in mid-October of 2021.
This season since the addition of 2 new teams and also 8 existing teams all want clarity about where the league is going to take place. All the teams want it to happen in India itself.
The BCCI is exploring all the options possible. There are reports suggesting that countries like Sri Lanka, South Africa have openly welcomed BCCI to host its premier league event in their countries. South Africa has informed the BCCI that they can prepare elite Bio- Bubble in the towns of Cape Town and Johannesburg. In these 2 towns and their vicinity, SA has 4-5 grounds to conduct a tournament like IPL. This is the same vicinity where the India vs SA series was held. Also, the all-time option of UAE is available too.
Now yesterday according to the latest report BCCI have welcomed other boards and countries for their helping gesture but they planning to have IPL here in India itself. Top officials of BCCI reported saying the board is planning to have a tournament in 2 phrases in 2 towns of India.
BCCI is planning to host the IPL in the city of Mumbai and Ahmedabad. The league phase will be held in Mumbai and the knockout phase in Ahmedabad. When it comes to Mumbai it has 3 grounds in its vicinity the Wankhede Stadium the home ground of Mumbai Indians. The Brabourne Stadium of CCI and the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai Vashi. So Mumbai has 3 grounds where matches can take place without much traveling thus reducing the risk of Covid. Another advantage of hosting the league phase in Mumbai is The city of Mumbai is just driven down to 2 hours which means it can be used as a backup option if anything goes wrong. The City of Pune also has 2 grounds where matches can take place. Thus overall considering everything Mumbai is the best option to host the league phase of IPL.
Coming to Playoff stages only 4 teams will be remaining out of 10 so managing the logistics of 4 teams is easy from one city to another than all 10 teams. The New Modi stadium of Ahmedabad is redesigned and has a lot of amenities and most important it has almost 10 pitches (wickets) on the ground so for every playoff game new pitch is available.
Thus the idea according to the latest report about IPL venues seems sensible and practical. Lets us know what do you think of these reports and do you agree with the logic presented by BCCI for choosing these 2 Cities.
